In 1999 Obra Social Caja Madrid commissioned La Fábrica to design a new art award project. The result was Generaciones, an annual programme that supports young creators by giving them awards and grants to make art projects and by acquiring works for the savings bank’s collection.
Generaciones distributes a total of 195,000 euros a year in awards, grants and work acquisitions. The jury that selects the award-winning artists is composed of experts and professionals from the art world.
Works by the artists selected every year are disseminated widely both among the main art institutions and experts and the public at large through an extensive exhibition programme in Spain’s major cities and a wide distribution of catalogues that aim to faithfully reflect the value and interest of their work.
The works that are the result of the grant-winning projects in each Generaciones project are shown a year later at the ARCO Fair and described in a new catalogue.
Generaciones celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010 and has been confirmed as the competition of reference for young artists in Spain. Since the beginning, the programme has been managed entirely by La Fábrica for Obra Social Caja Madrid.
