Matadero Madrid is an emblematic cultural project for the former municipal slaughterhouse in Arganzuela and was prepared in response to a request from the Arts Area of the City Council of Madrid.

La Fábrica focused its professional collaboration on the definition of a new cultural project and it established the concept, fields of action and activities to be developed in addition to the preliminary distribution of spaces and facilities; and a method for incorporating the various institutions involved into the project.

Furthermore, La Fábrica’s collaboration with the City Council has also extended to a consulting role in the definition and organisation of the project’s public presentation, planning of the first actions in the field of image and communications and design and coordination of the website.

Matadero Madrid’s activity programme covers various creative spheres: plastic arts, visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, new media, design and architecture in each and every one of its current forms.

The lines of activity defined include three major aspects in each field: exhibition; production and encounters; and cultural leisure.
