The citizens of Madrid play a leading role in the creation of the Community of Madrid Photographic Archive. They were asked to participate in this photographic project by loaning the best photographs from their private albums for digitisation and cataloguing.

Through various photographic digitisation and cataloguing points distributed throughout all the Community’s municipalities from April 23rd through June 9th 2007, photographs were recovered that would otherwise have remained inaccessible and concealed from society.?

Thanks to the contributions made by thousands of citizens, approximately 26,000 images have been digitised and catalogued. They are valuable documents about the history of Madrid and its residents and range from images made by old processes dating from the dawn of photography to images made at the end of the 20th

Citizens were given a participation channel on the website that has remained open until the present time.
