Ramón Masats and Gervasio Sánchez win the top prizes PHotoEspaña 2014 Awards

PhotoEspaña director, Claude Bussac, has announced in a press conference the names of the top awards winners that year after year , PhotoEspaña grants to prominent personalities in the field of photography and visual arts. The event was attended by Rosa Ros, head of the legacy of Bartolomé Ros, and the two winners.

The PhotoEspaña 2014 Award, which recognizes the professional career of a personality in the field of national and international photography , has corresponded to Ramón Masats .

PhotoEspaña recognizes with this award «the work of a principal author in the history of Spanish photography , possessed of a wry , fresh and powerful look. The contribution of Ramón Masats modernization and professionalization of the visual arts in our country , solo and as a member of different photographic collective , has been key, as well as his influence on later generations». The Festival also highlights «the great storytelling ability of his photography, present in the various publications that collect his work».

The prize has been granted before the photographers Alberto García- Alix, Thomas Ruff, Graciela Iturbide, Malick Sidibé, Martin Parr, Robert Frank , Hiroshi Sugimoto, William Klein, William Eggleston, Helena Almeida, Nan Goldin , Duane Michals, Chema Madoz, Luis González Palma and Josef Koudelka .

The work of Ramón Masats is present in two exhibitions under the official section of PhotoEspaña 2014: La Palangana, collective exhibition organized by the Banco Santander Foundation which will run from June 3 to August 31, and Ramon Masats unpublished until July 26 at Blanca Berlín Gallery.

The Bartolomé Ros Award to the best Spanish course in Photography has been awarded to Gervasio Sánchez .

The jury of Rosa Ros , head of the legacy of Bartolomé Ros; Carlos Pérez Siquier , photographer and winner of last edition; Chema Conesa, independent curator ; and Alberto Anaut , President of PhotoEspaña, has recognized with this award «his humanistic photography , ethical and professional commitment to the conflicts of our time and impetus to the promotion of photojournalism»

The prize, awarded by the legacy of Bartolomé Ros, recognizes the contribution of a Spanish personality development of photography in all its fields, either as a curator, author, historian, critic or through any direct link with the environment. In other editions have been awarded  Carlos Pérez Siquier, Fundaciò Foto Colectania, Chema Madoz, Chema Conesa, Isabel Muñoz, Ricard Terré, Javier Vallhonrat, Marta Gili, Alejandro Castellote, la librería Kowasa, Joan Fontcuberta, Alberto García-Alix, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, Ramón Masats, Cristina García Rodero and Publio López Mondéjar.
