The photo exhibition, Rising Sun, held by a group of seven Japanese photographers, will probably betray your expectations. The feeling of betrayal may come from the nonexistence of stereotypical «Japanese elements» in the exhibition. For that matter, exhibited photographs seem far from so-called «Japanese photography».

In Europe, Japanese photography mostly mean the works of Yasumasa Morimura, Nobuyoshi Araki, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Daido Moriyama became popular and became front men for the Japanese photography in the 90s. However, photographers participating in this exhibition are not genuine successors of them, the reason they were selected for. Such selection was directed to display one end of contemporary Japanese photography that has been moving with incredible speed and full diversification.
