MARTA SOUL’S WELL JOB AT LA FABRICA

Welljob is a set of portraits of women looking for idyllic work within the current framework of the job market in Spanish society. The project does not seek to document a specific reality but to portray some people’s dreams of achieving certain objectives. This means that, while based on specific professional profiles, the scenes for the photographs have been created from ideals involving innovation and progress.

The job categories analysed by the artist to provide a symbolic representation of these ideas are: technology, art, science, industry, fashion, politics, business, education, design and communications. Each of these disciplines is depicted from the perspective of a portrait in which the woman shows herself as a top-level professional, carrying out her work in organisations capable of representing innovation as it is perceived today.

Each photo shoot involves constructing a narrative scene that includes the idea of femininity, through the use of aesthetic stereotypes associated with this concept, and that of personal fulfilment, through highly skilled professional specialisation. During the photographic work per se, a series of real testimonies are collated, consisting of rejections made to candidates seeking employment.
